High School History

Eastern High School was built in 1957-1959 to combine and better serve the students from this areas two high schools at the time, Hellam High School and Wrightsville High School. After 3 years of planning, construction began with the ground breaking on Sunday, September 15, 1957. The building was given to the Joint Board for occupancy on Friday, July 3, 1959. The school finally opened September 8, 1959. An official dedication was held on November 22, 1959. Forty two years later, Eastern High School is still going strong!
