This course is designed to encourage students
to successfully acquire important language skills and to gain an appreciation
for literature. The course also focuses on word attack, word identification,
sequencing, and paraphrasing strategies taught through a reading comprehension
workshop. Also included is an emphasis on writing skills in preparation for

The course continues an exploration of various methods of using the English

as the novel, poetry, drama, and short story. A senior English project that
includes a self-evaluation of their students portfolio is required. 1 credit

Applied
Math I

This course is designed for students who need
to improve their basic skills in the four math operations with whole numbers.
The course will also touch on computational
skills in fractions and decimal concepts. Emphasis will be on using these operations
in word problems and exercises related to money, time, and measurement. It focuses
directly on the mathematical concepts needed for everyday life. 1 credit - 6
periods/cycle.
Applied
Math II (Teacher

This course is designed for students who have
mastered basic operations with whole numbers, but who need to learn computational
skills in fractions , decimals, measurement, and word problems in all of those
three areas. An introduction to simple geometry vocabulary and concepts
will be included in the measurement unit as well and making change in the decimal
unit. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Applied
Math III (Teacher

This course is designed for students who have
mastered basic operations skills.. Students will improve their use of these
skills in problems of geometry, graphs, percentages, and multi-step problem

Consumer

Topics covered in this course will include personal
finances, budgeting, interest, insurance, taxes, banking accounts and topics

Government

This course will include units on the principales
of a representative democracy and how these principales differ from other forms
of government. Students will study the election process, voter registration
and responsibilities, the various levels of government, the 3 branches of government
and their functions. They will study how our laws are made beginning with the
Constitution and how they affect their daily lives. A current events notebook
will be required. Students will study the judicial process and role play several

World
Design, Human Awareness, and Diversity

In today's ethnically, racially, and religiously diverse society,
understanding and tolerance is the key to survival. World Design & Human
Awareness will first analyze the world from a geographic and cultural context.
Students will investigate the life experiences of others including but not limited
to dress, food ways, holidays, dance, music, literature, religion, and traditions.

Economics

This course is designed for students in Grades
9 to 12. It is an overview of economics emphasizing the students ability
to function adequately in society in the area of consumer problems, and life
skill situations. Personal budgeting and finances will be stressed.
Sample forms for financial and economic situations will be completed and filed
in notebook form for reference by students in the future. This course is offered

Geography

This course is for students in Grades 9 to 12.
The content will include map reading skills, drawing and labeling of different
kinds of map (political, relief, product, population). The earth's major
characteristics (continents, iuslands, bodies of water, climate resources, land
forms, political divisions), and global problems will be included in the content.

Physical

This course is for students in Grades 9-12 who
wish to learn about our physical world. Topics to be covered will include
units on chemistry, electricity, sound, light, magnetism, motion, force, work
and energy, heat, and nuclear science. These topics will be related to

Biology

This course is for students in Grades 9-12
who wish to learn about all aspects of biological science. Cource content
will include classification of all kingdoms of living organisms and factual
information and labortory work on each kingdom. Topics will be related
to the students daily lives. As an extended part of the course, the students
are encouraged to respect all forms of life as they are essential for the continual
existence of our fragile ecosystem, ultimately, the Earth. Learning strategies
