Senior High Chorus (Prerequisite: None)
  This vocal performance course is designed to guide the student in discrimination and appreciation of music and to acquire some understanding of musical notation. .5 credit - 3 periods/cycle
     
Concert Choir (Prerequisite: Audition)
  Concert Choir is offered to students from senior chorus who are selected according to their ability. Entry is gained through audition. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle
     
Concert/Jazz Band
(Prerequisite: Previous instrumental music study)
 

This course is designed to develop the student's playing ability and cognitive and aesthetic understanding of music through the performance and analysis of selected compositions.

NOTE: Marching Band is an extra-curricular unit which meets outside the school day. A student should be enrolled in Concert Band in order to be included in this group. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle

     
Concert Band (Prerequisite: Previous instrumental music study)
  This course is open to instrumental students in Grades 9 to 12. It is an elective open to those who do not wish to participate in jazz band. .5 credit - 3 periods/cycle
     
Music Theory
  This course will concentrate on the aural, oral, and written mechanics of music composition, performance, and appreciation. Topics will include: melody writing, four-part writing, analysis, rhythmic dictation, one- and two-part melodic dictation, sight-singing, and basic concepts in composition. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle
     
Introduction to Piano (Prerequisite: None)
  This course is an elective for students who wish to develop basic piano skills and continue to develop their music reading skills. Fundamental keyboard technique, music notation reading, and aural skills will enable the student to perform simple songs with accompaniment. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
     
Intermediate Piano (Prerequisite: Introduction to Piano)
  This course is an advanced class for students who wish to improve their piano technique. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle
     
Advanced Piano (Prerequisite: Intermediate Piano)
  This course is for piano students who wish to perform advanced piano repertoire and improve their piano technique. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
     
Electronic Music (Prerequisite: None)
  This course is an elective for students interested in exploring electronic music technology and further developing their musical skills. Students will learn to create music using computers, keyboards, and other technology. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
     
Popular Music (Prerequisite: None)
  This course is an elective for students interested in exploring the basic music and cultural elements of Western Popular music. Study of instrumental and vocal styles, including Western Classical, the Blues, Jazz, Rock, Musicals, and music of the 1990's constitutes the primary focus of the course. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
