Family & Consumer Science

Personal/Family Life Skills (Required Grade 9)
This course is designed to help the student understand the role, function and life cycle of the family. Decision making, communication, nutritional needs, personal relationships, and care-giving topics will be covered. Emphasis will also be placed on resource management and consumer education. .25 credit - 3 periods/cycle.

Child Development (Prerequisite: None)
The course includes the study and discussion of child development, such as behavioral patterns, abilities, and needs.  Students will explore the growth and development of children from conception through age six.  Good parenting skills will be emphasized.  Students will display knowledge in several ways to strengthen teaching skills in preparation for child care. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.

Child Care (Prerequisite: Child Development)
This course will give students the opportunity to work directly with Eastern York School District residents' pre-school children through a "hands-on" teaching experience. Students are responsible for implementing a daily plan for the children. The social, mental, physical and intellectual development of pre-school children is emphasized. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
