Publishing & The Internet
(Prerequisite: Document Processing,
Microsoft Office)
This course will focus on two very distinct and
necessary areas of computing in the world today. The desktop publishing
portion will introduce students to the effective design, layout and computer
generation of quality publications such as advertisements, bi-fold and tri-fold
pamphlets, multi-program reports and multi-media presentations. The course
will use the Corel Professional Office and the Microsoft Office software package
that is networked in the high school. The internet portion will introduce
students to browsing the Internet, as well as the many protocols for interacting
with the Internet. The language of the Internet (hypertext markup language)
will also be introduced with the goal of having students create their own home
pages. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
C+ Programming
(Information Management, Document
Processing, B-average Algebra I)
Students will learn how to program in C+, the
programming language used in most introductory college programming courses.
Students will design and write a variety of interesting useful programs.
The class is comparable to a first year college programming course. 1 credit
- 6 periods/cycle.
Journalism/Multi-Media
(Prerequisite:
None)
This class will be taught in two parts. The Journalism portion will work with
news, feature, and editorial writing. Interviewing, editing, and organizing
a newspaper staff will also be covered. Students will design, layout, and be
responsible for the class-produced school newspaper. In the video production
portion of the class students will cover camera shooting techniques, proper
lighting, how to direct and manage a video production, and non-linear editing
techniques. These students will be responsible for the production of the daily
morning announcement show. The course can count as a computer credit. 1 credit
- 6 periods/cycle.
