This course will explore the multiple purposes
of work and the range of career options available to students. Students
will understand the importance of relating their interests, aptitudes, skills
and values to the career decision making process. .25 credit - 3 periods/cycle.
Document
Processing (Required
Grade 9)
After a review of the keyboard with an emphasis
on correct techniques, students will learn to process personal and business
documents. Documents include personal business letters, buiness letters,
various reports (including footnotes and headers) memos, invoices, and news
releases. Students will spent time developing speed and accuracy and will
develop good work habits that will enable them to turn out error free documents.
WordPerfect Office Suite software is used in this class. This course can
be used
as a computer credit. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Advanced
Document Processing
(C-average Document
Processing)
Students enrolled in this class will be challenged
to priortize and organize assignments as they learn to work in various office
settings with simulations in the various secretarial fields - executive, medical
and legal. Students will focus on skill improvment of speed, accuracy, proofreading
and error-free document preparation. WordPerfect Office Suite software is used
in this class. This course can be used as a computer credit. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Speed
writing (Prerequisite:
None)
Students in this course will learn the SuperWrite
Speedwriting system which will enable them to increase their note taking speed,
learn legible note taking skills, and apply their skills to personal, educational
and business uses. This is a system of writing that is based primarily
oon what you already know--the alphabet. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Office Technology
(Prerequisite: Advanced Document Processing)
This course is designed to train students for entry-level employment
in the business world. Included units are transcription, telephone usage, filing,
electronic calculator, word processing, and preparing for work. Knowledge of
Word Perfect Office Suite, or Microsoft Office Suite software is essential for
this course. A cooperative work experience program is available for an additional
credit. This course can be used as a computer credit. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Accounting
I (9th
grade Math Credit)
This course presents all phases of elementary
accounting principles, payroll, accounting subsystems, and special accounting
systems and procedures. Practice sets of accounting records for businesses
are kept to provide practical experience. This course is recommended for
all business students and any academic student planning to pursue a career in
business. (NOTE: Accounting I may count tward the 4-credit math requirement.)

Accounting
II (C-average
Accounting I)
This course is an extension of the accounting
I course which focuses on the important internal and external uses of accounting
data. Special efforts are made to integrate computer applications with
the basic procedures of manual accounting system to make the course responsive
to current business practices. Acounting II may count tward a 4-credit
math sequence. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Business Mathematics
(10th
Grade Math Credit)
Typical mathematics necessary for studying business subjects are stressed in
this course. Subjects covered include taxes, finances, insurance, investments,
business records, and interpretation of graphs. Business math may count toward
the 4-credit math requirement. 1 credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Introduction
to Microsoft Office (Document
Processing)
This course focuses on the concepts of computer
literacy and the use of computers in business. Students will learn to
use Microsoft Word, Power Point and Access to prepare various personal and business
documents. This course will help prepare students for the transition from the
classroom to the workplace. This course can be used as a computer credit. 1
credit - 6 periods/cycle.
Business
Law (U.S. I)
This is an introductory course to help student
gain an understanding of the law; both business law and personal law,
and to help students understand their rights and reponsibilities as citizens
as well as the law's implications in their future. Topics such as contract
law, consumer law, family law (buyinga house, renting an apartment, purchasing
insurance) as well as wills and pensions will be discussed. Students will
also become familiar with courtroom procedure and court officers.
